2013 Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG

Even though we still prefer the G-Class over the newer GL, the just announced Mercedes-Benz GL 63 AMG is certainly also worth taking a look at, as it perfectly blends style, convenience and of course incredible performance in one vehicle. Mercedes used the occasion to update the car both from a visual standpoint, but mainly technically – the new GL might be the most technically advanced SUV on the road, featuring any assistance system you can think of and the engines have also nicely developed, pushing both efficiency and performance at the same time.

The new GL 63 AMG comes with a AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo engine with 557 hp and manages the 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds, which is very impressive for the 7 seater. Look out for the SUV to hit roads, starting November 2012.

Nike to Sell Cole Haan & Umbro Brands

Beaverton, Oregon-based global athletic juggernaut Nike Inc. has announced its plans to sell their ownership stakes in both Cole Haan and Umbro in order to focus on their Nike, Jordan, Converse and Hurley labels. Having acquired fashion-casual label Cole Haan almost 25-years ago, Nike only recently purchased England-based Umbro back in 2008 for more than $580 million USD in an attempt to strengthen its presence in the soccer market. Mark Parker, president and CEO of Nike, said in a statement, “Divesting of Umbro and Cole Haan will allow us to focus our resources on the highest-potential opportunities for Nike Inc. to continue to drive sustainable, profitable growth for our shareholders.” Nike plans to have both companies off the books by May of 2013.

Who knows if the Dell XPS 27 will be enough to compete with Apple’s iMac, and its inherent stranglehold on the all-in-one desktop computer market, but Dell is keen to try. Dell has also provided a full range of amenities like six USB ports (four 3.0, and two 2.0), HDMI input/outputs, media card reader slot, Bluetooth 4.0, and a slot-loading disc drive with optional Blu-ray — something that has yet to come to Mac. Starting at $1,400 USD, the XPS is a compelling shot across Apple’s bow that could very well go blow-for-blow with the iMac when it is released later this year
